Bird Survey

Services: Environmental

Project Description:

Roy Northern provided a team of bird identification specialists to comb the area prior to the mulching of an existing pipeline project during the critical bird timing window. Project design was informed by Inventory Methods for Forest and Grassland Songbirds (Resources Inventory Committee 1999), and was intended to provide information regarding current nesting and breeding activity within the project footprint and surrounding area. Throughout the multi day project our personnel searched the area for both active bird nests and birds both by visual and auditory methods. Findings were summarized in a post survey report to the client, which featured GIS mapping to indicate areas of breeding activity along the project. Areas which were found to contain active nests were flagged off and were given an avoidance buffer during mulching and returned to in the fall after the birds had left the nest.
