POSITION:  INTERMEDIATE CONTAMINATED SITES PROJECT MANAGER

LOCATION: Fort St. John Office or Remote Work Options

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of a recognized Post Secondary institution or college in the field of Chemistry or Environmental Sciences
  • Generally, at least 3-5 years of relevant environmental consulting experience
  • Professional designation
  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office
  • Current Safety Tickets; Valid Class 5 Driver’s License; Canadian Citizen or Permanent Residency

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Well organized and ability to coordinate project planning, logistics, and preparation for field work
  • Well-versed in applicable environmental regulations, guidelines, and associated industry practices within BC/AB
  • Strong working knowledge of the oil and gas industry
  • Working knowledge of the behavior of different contaminants in the environment
  • Displays independence in scheduling and completing work tasks; little supervision required
  • Good problem solver; makes decisions of moderate complexity and consequence with less frequent input/review from senior staff (with communication to Manager as required)
  • Business focused; approaches problems from a business perspective
  • Practices good judgement; able to prioritize challenges and competing interests; knows their limits
  • Strong commitment to client satisfaction
  • Superior attention to detail and ability to produce professional deliverables on time
  • Ability to manage time and priorities effectively
  • Strong commitment to health and safety leadership; embraces concept of leading and promoting our HSE culture
  • Strong writing skills, understands what is important to Roy Northern and its clients; identifies key messages

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Major focus is leadership of technical quality and project management for small to larger, more complex projects
  • Provides technical direction and supervises quality and quantity of work to junior and other intermediate staff
  • Strong project management skills, able to breakdown problems into manageable size, ability to manage scope
  • Interface with clients and staff to setup, manage and report on environmental services related to contaminated sites and emergency spill response
  • Builds and maintains positive client relationship focused on providing top-quality service in regulatory expertise
  • Prepares proposals including scopes of work and cost estimates for environmental projects
  • Recognized as role model who mentors and provides technical direction to junior staff; motivates and encourages junior and intermediate staff to achieve results; main communication link between seniors and juniors
  • Delegates effectively; understands the assignment; strong communication to team; sets clear expectations; checks-in; identifies parameters/constraints to achieve tasks
  • Client focused; becoming more of a solutions provider to clients and colleagues than a deliverable provider
  • Strong ownership attitude; makes decisions with company’s interests in mind; proactively works within budget; maintains responsibility for total deliverable package
  • Emerging as a leader; has the ability and desire to lead small teams; actively supports corporate initiatives; promotes Roy Northern’s culture
  • Is responsible for completion of reports, documents, and proposals with senior review, and is responsible for all administrative tasks (invoicing, organizing project folders and data, change orders, client correspondences, etc.) associated with managing projects
  • Consults with environmental regulatory bodies, and interacts with regulators on behalf of clients, as needed
  • Displays a ‘safety first’ focus; sets a positive example by identifying and reporting hazards, near misses and incidents; seeks resolution to the issues identified; provides HSE support to junior staff; and leads the hazard assessment process on their projects
  • Responds to environmental emergencies any time of day in a timely and urgent manner with appropriate equipment
  • Arranges for all necessary permits and permissions to complete site remediation work
  • Designs and implements field programs
  • Samples environmental media (soil, groundwater, vapour) for contaminants
  • Undertakes assignments that may involve travel and periods of time away from home office
