POSITION: Health, Safety, Environment Coordinator

Reporting to the BC Operations Manager and Department Managers, this full-time position of Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) Coordinator will be based in our Fort St. John, BC office. The successful candidate will provide overall HSE support for our staff and sub-contractors while they serve our clients and execute projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate of post-secondary degree or diploma in Occupational Health, Safety and Environment
- National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), or Construction Safety Officer (CSO) designation, Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) preferred
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in occupational health and safety
- Valid OSSA, CSTS-09, PCST, CSO, Ground Disturbance, and H2S Alive training certifications required
- Valid Snowmobile, ATV/UTV training certifications an asset
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (current abstract must be provided). No graduated licenses will be accepted. Class 1 or 3 licenses will be considered an asset
- Expert knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Acts, Regulations and Codes, and how it pertains to daily field tasks in multiple Provincial jurisdictions
- Certified internal auditor through Energy Safety Canada
- Experience in incident investigation (Root Cause Analysis)
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience in Stay at Work/Return to Work programs and WCB Claims reporting requirements
- Experience with design and facilitation of Emergency Response Exercises an asset
- Experience in creating and delivering training considered an asset
- Experience in maintaining compliance through ISNetworld, ComplyWorks, and Avetta
- Experience working with contractors, external audit companies, clients, and regulatory agencies
- Ability to prepare, implement, and audit professional project-specific safety plans
- Knowledge of QMS (Quality Management System) ISO 9001-2015 an asset

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide strong Safety leadership presence, encourage and promote a safe work culture with a positive attitude and team approach
- Work with employees, supervisors, and management to identify and mitigate hazards
- Provide mentorship to workers and leaders in maintaining safe work habits and practices
- Maintain Roy Northern Safety Manual which meets or exceeds current industry standards
- Ensure the requirements of Roy Northern’s Safety Management System are being followed
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans, standards, procedures, and client/project-specific safety plans
- Work with project managers to provide strategic guidance and support to meet client and regulatory safety requirements on specific projects
- Perform various levels of worksite inspections and audits, and follow through with appropriate levels of coaching and support for all corrective actions
- Lead the development and review of Job Hazard Assessments (JHA) and Safe Work Practices (SWP)
- Maintain HSE KPI registries; ComplyWorks and Avetta, and ISNet for client reference and monitoring
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and hazardous conditions and complete incident causation analysis
- Develop, implement, and follow-up on corrective actions, and ensure all health and safety reporting is completed
- Conduct health and safety audit programs in office and field, to comply with client safety requirements and COR maintenance audit requirements
- Ensure all responsibilities related to WCB administration are completed
- Demonstrate expert knowledge of current OH&S Legislation, Federal and Provincial Laws, and Industry Standards
- Generate statistical reports demonstrating analysis of trends to develop strategies to improve OH&S performance
- Proactively identify opportunities for improvement and communicate the same back to Managers
- Deliver Employee HSE Orientations and other specified training as required
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Undertake assignments that may involve travel and periods of time away from home/office, on occasion
- Ability to stand and walk over various terrain for extended periods of time, on occasion
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs at waist and shoulder height, on occasion
- Must be physically and mentally fit with the ability to safely drive in remote locations alone
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time, on occasion
